Like to BREAK things? Visit the Vancouver Community Laboratory for your chance to smash a car! For just a few dollars, you can take part in a scrumptious pancake BREAK-fast, WRECK a car, have your mind BLOWN by local art / creations, and PLAY a giant claw game! Wreckage form the car will be used by local artists for materials, and all proceeds benefit the Vancouver CoLab and Vancouver Mini Maker Faire.

All ages. Entrance by donation.

Move in day was a huge success. Everyone pitched in and the container was empty before noon. We got a few goodies left over from the previous tenants, some shelving and a very fine table for the metalshop, as well as lots of good metal scrap.

Saturdays Member signup at the new space had great turnout. We got to meet a bunch of new people interested in the Lab, and see a few old faces we’d been missing from the old space. And for those of you who couldn’t make it this weekend, we are having another open house this next week. Even if you are not interested in being a member, feel free to come out and check out the new space.

When: Tuesday, March 12 – 6pm to 7pm

Where: 1907 Triumph St (map)

What We Need From You:
Cash or cheque.
$250 – for full time key holder members ($100 for first month, April + $50 yearly membership + $100 key deposit)
$100 – for part time members ($50 for first month, April +$50 yearly membership)

A note on subletting the second floor:
We are searching for a tenant for the second floor, if you represent an organization looking for a space from 1,400 sq ft – 3,500 sq ft we would love to talk to you. We’ve posted a video tour of the second floor of the space. If you know anyone who is part of an organization looking for a space, please send them our way. We can be contacted at info@vancommunitylab.com.

Specifics:

There are 3 options with regard to size of the space available:

1. 3,500 square feet x $1.25 sq ft/month = $4,375/mo – this is the whole space
2. 1,400 square feet x $1.25 sq ft/month = $1,750/mo (part of the space)
3. 2,100 square feet x $1.25 sq ft/month = $2,625/mo (part of the space)

This includes hydro (unless super power heavy), garbage, water, a bathroom, freight elevator (500lbs max), lots of great natural light and 11 foot ceilings.
Length of lease would be a minimum of 1 year.  2 years preferably.  Move in date will be April 1.

The 3,600sq/ft blank slate we’ll be filling with our shop.

It’s HAPPENING!

We are getting the Vancouver Community Lab back up and running.

We are in the final steps to signing the lease for the bigger better space at Victoria and Powell with a possible March 15th move-in date. We’re really excited but before we can take this final leap we need you to show us you’re really interested in making this succeed by becoming a member.

We’d like to welcome all to come check out the space and sign up for your membership.

TIME:

Thursday, March 7th from 6-7pm   (Cancelled, landlord can’t make it)
Saturday March 9th from 2-3pm

We hauled many loads of scrap metal and lumber away (big thanks to Mike for bringing his truck, without him we would have got less than half as much done). Although it was sad to see so many months of accumulated bits and pieces going out the door, it also left me feeling lighter, and looking forward to the new place we’re going to occupy in a few months. As Kim said ‘maybe we’ll even have plumbing!’

On a similar topic, the Red Gate Collective has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise awareness and funds for their and our potential co-location (along with VHS and Dynamo) at 281 Industrial. Please forward the link to everyone you know who has a stake in arts, DIY, hacking and making scene, or just everyone you know.

First, there will be another Maker Faire meeting on April 11 down at EatART.  Please feel free to join us.

Secondly, EatART will also be hosting a fundraising party for Maker Faire on April 30.  It will be a costume party, so wear something CRAZY!  Tickets are available online, and like most EatART events, it’s likely to sell out, so get yours soon!
